Moving on yet again

Hi Again,

Since I last reported we have moved on, we finely got Plodd back after her suspension fix (the Post office in Hungary have done a great job). On the front they put an extra leaf on the leaf springs and put heaver duty shock absorbers on, the same again on the back – replaced the shockers with much more heavy duty ones.
We have now left Hungary after staying 10 nights, Judit,my cousin was fantastic she took time off work to help with our problems and lent us her car so we could go sight seeing. She cooked some great food helped by her mum Magdush. Adel also helped when we were needing translation, her English is very advanced for someone of her age.
We will miss all the family in Hungary and Hungary itself, great place to see,so thanks to you all.

After we left Hungary we travelled to Slovenia, didn’t see much of Slovenia as when we got there is was early evening and then when we got up on the Saturday morning it was raining (the first real rain of the trip) so we decided to move on. We were about 3 or 4 days behind schedule anyway with the problems with Plodd etc so after getting on our way we made a detour into Italy for a few hours.
If we had a problem getting through Albania and other countries, (our UK insurance company are now saying that they will not cover us in Bosnia, Kosovo, Macedonia Albania and Ukraine), then we may try to detour through Italy. We would then try to sort out a ferry from the bottom of Italy into Greece, where we could continue on our planned trip.
After our detour into Italy we finally arrived in Croatia and travelled down the coast road south to a place called Krk,the coast road had views that you would normally only see out of an aircraft window, so using the coordinates provided by our ACSI book ,( God help us ! Whoever put the coordinates in the ACSI book wants shooting not found a single one right yet! however HRH came up with a good idea, that once we got within a couple of miles of the planned campsite she would take the coordinates out of the satnav and ask the satnav to find a campsite close to where we where and hey presto that did the trick the satnav found the site we was looking for!

The site we are now on in Krk has a view directly on to the Adriatic Sea (amazing first thing in a morning), We soon settled on the site and I was telling the owner of the site our insurance problem. He said he will call his insurance people on Monday morning and see if they can help with our problem., fingers crossed.Never mind they could not help.

We are planning to stay a few days here on this site so this will be our first attempt to put the awning on the site of Plodd, hopefully without any divorce paper’s or any cost’s for flights anywhere.

Don’t forget if anybody as any comments or in fact any ideas about anything don’t hesitate to comment.

Hi Everybody,

Another problem

We decided to move further down Croatia yesterday, we had been on the motorway about 2 or 3 hours Plodding along and there was this very loud bang from the back of Plodd, so I pulled onto the hard shoulder and found we had had a blowout in one of our back tyres. We turned off the motorway asap and found a little tyre repair shop in the middle of nowhere, the guy there replaced the blown tyre with our spare for the grand total of £5, so we now have no spare.

We then went a little further down the coast hoping to pick up a new spare from one of the bigger town/cities anyway after reaching Zadar at about 6pm (18.00), we found a tyre repair shop who has ordered 2 new tyres but they will not be here until Wednesday. We are now stopping at a rather nice small campsite owned by a rather nice chatty Australian lady and her husband in Bibinje. We are parked looking onto the marina at Bibinje (£10 per night inc electricity). I am going to have the 2 new tyres put on the front of Plodd and the extra spare tyre (with no wheel) I will put on the roof I think. Might build another room up there also for HRH after the performance with the tyre yesterday! Lol!

Just one other thing specially for Duncan and the boys in Leo’s bar Khon Khean, if we were to travel directly to you from here in Croatia we would travel a mere 8563 Km, so the 5800 Km from Blackpool isn’t even halfway yet ! However if we were to travel from here to the Monkey training centre in Chang Mai not only would we find Dennis Wood there with his relatives but we would have traveled 8070 Km!
Just sharing a few facts with you after reading on the SatNav!!!

Anyway thought I would up date you on our goings on.

Dave & Les.

  1. Hiya Dave & Les,

It`s David, just sat here with mum reading about this amazing adventure you`re both having. The Plodd looks fantastic the repairs sound expensive lets hope you don`t have too many more hiccups with the van. I noticed on the map you`re heading to Greece now are you still planning on going through Ukraine and on to Russia? Mam wants to know what you thought of Italy? The photos from Slovakia look unreal, like you said looks like a scene from an aeroplane window!! You both look really well feel like im standing still…need to get myself a prison van and do the same I think!!! Truly inspiring stuff stay safe and enjoy every minute of it, will look forward to lots of stories when you come back lots of love Dave & Lorraine xx

  2. Hi Dave & Lorraine,

We were only in Italy for 2 or 3 hours but we have said that if we do drive back then we would travel a different route and take in such as Italy and Spain etc.
The Ukraine, I am in contact almost daily with people on the road going through the Ukraine and just monitoring their progress. So at the moment, yes, we are still planning to travel through the Ukraine we will say to the West of the country.

Repairs expensive ? Well lets say Judit saved us a fortune yes it was expensive but nothing like I am sure it would have been in the UK!

The photos from Slovakia were good but some of the photos we have taken in the mountains in Albania are unreal to the point we dare not stand up to take them we were that close to the edge of the road. Bosnia and Hertzegovia was stunning.

We are now in Albania, this country is nothing like what you hear about, the country, is very green in places and baron in others, the people are helpful and very hospitable on the site we are staying now for a couple of nights, Hotel/Camp Nord Park Albania Kompleks (Maybe Google it). When we arrived the staff brought to Plodd a plate full of mixed fruit and as I sit outside in the sun (9am) now the waiter has brought me free coffee.
Saying that the customs department and Insurance company were not very hospitable they ripped us off good style 89.40 Euros for 3 days insurance cover (Third Party Only minimum insurance is 15 days cover) not even Fire and Theft cover, anyway they maybe the first to rip us off on our trip but I am sure they wont be the last.

    Comment again soon,

    Dave & Les
